15 Years: Remembering Aaliyah

Today’s popular music artists are known for their ability to reach a variety of people. What’s more, these artists take it a step further and cross over into other forms of the arts to really capture the hearts and minds of their fans. For Aaliyah, this was nothing more than following her heart:

“I am truly blessed to wake up every morning to do something that I love; there is nothing better than that.”

For Aaliyah, life was about doing what made her happy, a goal we should all strive to achieve. She made those around her comfortable, easier to work with, thus, was able to make a great many hits, but what is more, she was able to make lasting friendships beyond the music industry.

As you can see, “The Queen of Urban Pop” made a forceful impact on those around her. So today, we are going to celebrate her amazing life by keeping in mind that loving yourself is key and to do what you love is not a job, but an extension of your soul reaching out to others through the work you put in.

Rest In Peace Aaliyah D. Haughton 01/16/1979 – 08/25/2001

Music: Joe Budden – Freedom

“I was told there was once a world where slaves communicated with each other via music, and tho I wasn’t present for that, the HipHop I fell in love with always encouraged me to do the same (Thank you Public Enemy),” Budden says. “Let this act as an unfortunate reminder that times change and they don’t. #BlackLivesMatter #YallLivesMatter #OurLivesMatter … I’m afraid to wonder what happens when we as a ppl decide to stop saying it. Some deem us threatening now by sheer design. We are not. We are loving, passionate, cultured and proud, even during unrest. However, with every life viciously and maliciously taken by costumed evil, we grow more and more afraid. What will occur when too many of us are afraid?” – Joe Budden
